Theater District, Downtown Houston, TX
Varies by venue and performance

Houston's Theater District is a 17-block area in downtown that ranks as the second-largest concentration of theater seats in the US, behind only New York's Broadway. Nine world-class performing arts organizations call this district home, making it one of only five US cities with permanent professional resident companies in all major performing arts disciplines.

The district's crown jewels include Jones Hall for the Performing Arts (home to the Houston Symphony), the Wortham Theater Center (Houston Ballet and Houston Grand Opera), the Alley Theatre (one of America's leading nonprofit theaters), and the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts. Together they offer over 12,000 seats.

Houston Ballet is the fourth-largest ballet company in the US, while Houston Grand Opera has premiered more works than any other American opera company. The Alley Theatre, founded in 1947, produces a mix of classics and world premieres in its two stages.

Visitor Tips: Check for same-day rush tickets at the box office — many companies offer deeply discounted seats. Pre-show dining options abound in the district. The Theater District is easily walkable and connects to the downtown tunnel system and METRORail.
