Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo
The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is the single largest event in Houston, a three-week extravaganza each February-March that draws over 2.5 million visitors and has become one of the most iconic cultural events in the American South. Since 1932, the Rodeo has grown from a modest livestock exhibition into a massive celebration of Western heritage, agriculture, and world-class entertainment.
The rodeo competition itself features the best cowboys and cowgirls in the world competing in bull riding, barrel racing, saddle bronc riding, calf roping, and steer wrestling for some of the richest purses in professional rodeo. The livestock show showcases champion cattle, horses, sheep, and other animals in competitions that draw breeders from across the nation.
But for many Houstonians, the main draw is the concert series at NRG Stadium. Past headliners have included Beyoncé, George Strait, Lizzo, Luke Bryan, and dozens of other megastars performing for crowds of up to 75,000. The carnival midway features rides, games, and classic fair food.
The Rodeo also serves as Houston's largest charity, having committed over $550 million to Texas youth and education through scholarships and grants.
Visitor Tips: Buy concert tickets early — popular shows sell out fast. Go Houston Day offers discounted admission. The BBQ cook-off (a separately ticketed event) is a legendary party. Wear boots and a cowboy hat — everyone does.
