The western side of Houston is home to the “energy corridor” where BP America, Shell E&P, Exxon Chemical, ConocoPhillips, CITGO and other companies are located. Home to more than 60,000 jobs this is a premier employment area, full of parks, restaurants, shopping and hiking trails. It’s a large area and well worth discussing with a local who has helped many settle in. Hear about it from your greeter, see a small section and then strike out on your own full of local lore and background info.
Fly Over Houston
One Houston Greeter’s passion is flying, and she loves to share the sights in our area with others. Join a professional pilot in her two-seater plane and see the Greater Houston area from a unique perspective. Sights might include areas along the Texas Gulf Coast and back across Galveston Island, the San Jacinto Monument and downtown Houston. Flying time is about 45 minutes to an hour. The visitor will assume individual costs.
Join a Greeter to learn about the labyrinths in Houston. Every labyrinth around the world is unique in its look and feel. If you wish, one of our Greeters can join you for a walk through one or two of our local labyrinths.
Houston is home to a number of stellar outdoor festivals. There’s iFest, the Bayou City Art Festival, The Children’s Festival, the Italian, Brazilian, and Japan Festivals, Via Colori (where artists produce wonderful works of art directly on the pavement of downtown streets). Houstonians and visitors alike look forward to attending these unique and entertaining festivals every year.

Your Greeter can take you to some of our urban gardens and tell you about those that might be in your area. These gardens are particularly lush during the vegetable-growing season.
