Buffalo Bayou Walk

Explore Buffalo Bayou from Sabine to Bagby Street. Two miles of trails filled with public art connect the Allen Parkway trails to Sesquicentennial Park downtown in our newest park on Buffalo Bayou.

Discovery Green

Houston 1 ParksDiscovery Green is a 12-acre park created by a partnership between the City of Houston and the non-profit Discovery Green Conservancy. The park was created as an urban park that serves as a village green, a source of health and happiness for Houstonians and a window into the diverse talents and traditions that enrich life in Houston. There are numerous activities held at the park, including yoga classes, movies under the stars, “Toddler Tuesdays,” doggie athletic competitions, and performances by local and national bands. Discovery Green has a Gold Rating from the LEED Green Building Rating System and was recently named as on of America’s coolest city parks by Travel & Leisure Magazine.

Hermann Park

Enjoy one of Houston’s largest centrally located parks. Adjacent to The Medical Center, this 445-acre park includes the Houston Zoo, Miller Outdoor Theater, the Japanese Garden, the reflection pool, and the age-old trolley train enjoyed by young and old alike. A greeter will happily share some time with you here.

Houston Wilderness

Hiking trails are plentiful throughout Houston’s “wilderness.” Nearly all of our parks offer spots to enjoy the oldest form of transportation, walking! The trails range from nice and easy to rugged and adventurous. The Sam Houston National Forest contains the Lone Star trail, which is over 100 continuous miles through the East Texas piney woods.

Miller Outdoor Theatre

Zoo

The zoo is full of new animals. Recent additions to Houston’s animal family are a red panda, a fuzzy, doe-eyed Masai giraffe, a personable porcupine named Grover, and a bright orange orangutan. There are animals in the petting zoo area that are just waiting to be petted. Come connect with a Greeter for an early morning or late afternoon visit when the animals are more active.
